An Edinburgh MP has called for public support for charities to overcome the negative impact of Covid 19.

Christine Jardine, Liberal Democrat MP for Edinburgh West, made the call after visiting the Seagull Trust charity in Ratho as one of a series of visits across her constituency this week.

The volunteer-run Seagull Trust was founded in 1978 and provides canal trips for people of all ages with disabilities and special needs.

During her visit Ms Jardine heard that vital fundraising to keep the charity afloat has been undermined by the restrictions necessary to combat Covid19

She said:

“The work done by the Seagull Trust in offering canal cruises Is fantastic and it’s heart-breaking that, like so many others, its work is being curtailed by this crisis.

“The trust is a great example of a vital community work to support equality and inclusivity in Edinburgh West, and across its other three Scottish branches.

“I hope both that our Governments and the public recognise that by giving the financial backing they need. Donations, however small can make a huge difference to the lives of the people it helps.”
