Edinburgh West MP, Christine Jardine, is demanding that Lothian Buses reinstall a full bus service for residents in Ratho.
Lothian Buses announced that a reduced timetable was being introduced as of 21st June because of less customer demand on its bus services.
However, the current timetable means that the number 20 bus- the only one which operates through Ratho- has been reduced to once per hour, with no service at all on a Sunday.
Responding to the announcement, Christine Jardine MP said:
“This is simply not good enough. It’s bad enough that there is only one service which runs through Ratho, so this is yet another blow for the residents.
“I have many constituents in Ratho who need to commute into the city and an hourly service, with nothing running on a Sunday, is utterly unacceptable.
“Surely with lockdown beginning to ease, and knowing the risks of high air pollution levels, we want to be discouraging people from bringing cars into the city.
This is leaving people without any option but to drive and what about those who aren’t able to drive? I would encourage Lothian Buses to reconsider and will be discussing this with them to find an alternative solution.”
