Christine Jardine, MP for Edinburgh West, has warned that the Conservatives’ ‘botched Brexit’ will leave the UK poorer, and has called for the public to be given the final say on the deal.

Ahead of a crunch House of Commons vote on the Prime Minister’s deal, the Lib Dem MP said that any form of Brexit would pose a major threat to jobs and wellbeing in her constituency.

Ms Jardine commented:

“I cannot, in good conscience, support a deal that is not in the interests of my constituents.

“There isn’t any deal that can be better than the one we have now as a full member of the European Union.

“Our children and grandchildren deserve the same right to the opportunities we have had. What will we say when they ask why we let it be taken from them?

“In June 2016, Edinburgh West voted to remain in the European Union. Since my election, I have sought advice, listened to and received hundreds of letters and emails from my constituents. The overwhelming majority of them tell me that they want a final say on the deal.

“And I agree with them. The people must have the final say. Britain deserves better.”
